"The general term ‘carbon sequestration’ refers to the process by which carbon dioxide (CO2) is removed from the atmosphere and stored in long-term reservoirs, such as oceans, forests and soils. This case study is limited to carbon sequestration in agricultural soils. Carbon sequestration in agricultural soils is often referred to as a potential climate mitigation solution which also helps to improve soil quality: a win-win situation. However, the potential of this solution is often unclear. Here, we leverage information from the research program ‘Smart Land Use’ (Slim Landgebruik in Dutch), a policy supporting project which started in 2018. "
